Pilates - What is it?

I read about Pilates for a while and knew it was a low-impact exercise that is particularly suited for pregnant women and elderly involved some kind of Japanese in research facilities in the wood. Recently I started noticing more and more gyms that offers Pilates work, so I thought it was time I learned more about him.

Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. Not much is known about his childhood other than he was a boy who suffered from brittle asthma. He left Germany for England in 1912 where he worked as a circus performer and self defense instructor for Scotland Yard. When the First World War broke out, he was rounded up with other Germans abroad and detained as "enemy". During this period he began to develop techniques for fitness, which later became known as Pilates and passed away his time by teaching other inmates. Later in the war, he was ordered into a hospital on the Isle of Man is to work with disabled patients and used his exercises to help them recover. He even rigged hospital beds with springs and straps to make a first version of the Pilates equipment.

At the end of the war, Joseph returned to Germany and settled in the middle of the dance. A famous dancer and choreographer Hanya Holm has spent many years of Joseph, which she included in the technical "Holm" still used by the dancers of today.
Joseph was on the move again, this time emigrated to New York in 1926 with his wife Clara on the voyage to America. He began working with dancers to recreate a studio to rehabilitate injured dancers. Her Pilates have been so successful in the dance community that the word began to spread and screen stars and professional athletes have begun to introduce Pilates. Joesph died in 1967 and his wife Clara continued to operate a shop on Eighth Avenue in New York.

It is likely that we would never have heard of Pilates, but a dancer Alan Herdman was invited to New York in the sixties Carol Trier learn the techniques of Pilates. Herdman returned to England in the early 1970s and opened the first Pilates Studio in Great Britain. In the 1990s media began to collect stories of stars and use as Pilates has become more known.

This is how Pilates was born, but what exactly? I have read many different descriptions, but none of this makes sense. I think what we can do is actually going to try!
